Bentonville residence 1
Bentonville, Arkansas
After
The homeowners wanted to harvest and detain as much rainwater as possible with rain gardens and dry wells in order to promote good ecological stewardship for their downstream neighbors. Working closely with the homeowners as design partners, we designed a system of French drains and surface drains to protect the their home. A series of linked rain barrels, rain gardens, and a dry well capture the rainwater and detain it. The rain gardens and dry well allow the runoff to soak into the earth slowly instead of running quickly downhill across the neighborhood. Their new habitat garden with native plants is a source of enjoyment and satisfaction as they watch all the wildlife now living in their yard.
before
This home had been suffering flood damage for years when the new owners purchased it. Runoff from the street and nearby properties flowed toward the house, made large puddles in the yard, and even got in the garage on several occasions. Runoff made the yard so muddy the yard was almost unusable for weeks after each rain.
